Sarajevo Synagogue

The Ashkenazi Synagogue on the southern bank of the Miljacka River was completed in 1902 during Austro-Hungarian rule and is considered the third-largest synagogue in Europe. Its facade blends orientalising motifs with fin-de-siècle detailing — a striking architectural statement for a Jewish community with roots in Sarajevo stretching back to the 16th century. The building survived World War II and is now a protected National Monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina, functioning as the active seat of the Jewish Community of Sarajevo. The synagogue is open to visitors Monday through Friday, 10:00 to 14:00.
