Asahikawa Station
Transport Hub
Akita Station is the main rail hub of Akita city, the prefectural capital of Akita Prefecture in the Tōhoku region of northern Japan, originally opened in 1902 during the Meiji era. It serves multiple East Japan Railway Company lines, most notably the Akita Shinkansen, which connects the city to Tōkyō via Morioka and links this otherwise remote region to Japan's high-speed rail network. For travelers, the station functions primarily as a gateway to the wider prefecture — including Lake Tazawa, the samurai district of Kakunodate, and the region's famed rice paddies.
