Bexbach station

Bexbach station holds the oldest surviving railway station building in the Saarland, opened in 1849 as part of the Palatinate Ludwig Railway. At the time of its construction, Bexbach lay within the Bavarian Rhine district, and the station served simultaneously as a border crossing between the Kingdom of Bavaria and Prussia — giving it a geopolitical significance well beyond its operational role. While the comparable Homburg main station was destroyed during World War II and replaced with a postwar structure in the early 1950s, Bexbach's original building survived intact, including extensions added in 1872 and 1896, and is now a listed heritage monument. It remains one of the few tangible relics of Germany's early railway age in the region.
