Ennepetal (Gevelsberg) station

Ennepetal (Gevelsberg) station has existed since 1849 as a stop on the original Bergisch-Märkische Railway, one of the earliest rail lines in what is now North Rhine-Westphalia. Its former station building is considered one of the oldest surviving structures of its kind in the state and has been a listed monument since 1986. It opened at the height of the industrial boom in the Bergisches Land and Ennepe-Ruhr district, serving the iron foundries and hammer mills that defined the regional economy. Today the halt is a designated stop on the Route der Industriekultur, a heritage network linking over 400 industrial monuments across the Ruhr region. The station building no longer serves passengers but stands as a quiet architectural record of early railway-age Germany.
