Nobeyama Station

Nobeyama Station sits at 1,345 metres above sea level on the Nobeyama Plateau in Nagano Prefecture, making it the highest railway station in Japan. Opened in 1935 and today operated by JR East on the Koumi Line, the station serves a remote rural community surrounded by open farmland and views of the Yatsugatake mountain range. For rail enthusiasts, the journey itself along the winding Koumi Line is a draw — the route is considered one of the most scenically striking on Honshu.
