Shiojiri Station

Shiojiri Station is a rail junction in Nagano Prefecture, nestled among the Japanese Alps, and jointly operated by JR Central and JR East. Opened in 1902 during the Meiji era, it links the Chūō Main Line with the Shinonoi Line, making it a key interchange for the region. Its singular oddity sets it apart from virtually every other station in the world: a working vineyard grows directly on one of its platforms. Tended by station staff, the vines reflect the Shiojiri area's long winemaking tradition — and the resulting wine is sold inside the station itself.
