Bald Mountain

Bald Mountain — known locally as 'Baldy' — rises above Ketchum in Idaho's Sawtooth National Forest and forms the centerpiece of the Sun Valley ski resort. The resort was founded in 1936 by Union Pacific Railroad chairman Averell Harriman, making it one of the first purpose-built destination ski resorts in the United States, conceived to lure wealthy rail travelers westward. The mountain offers over 3,400 vertical feet of skiing across a wide range of difficulty levels, from gentle beginner slopes to demanding expert runs with sustained pitch. Summit views stretch across the Wood River Valley and the surrounding Idaho ranges. In summer, the mountain transitions into a hiking and mountain biking destination within the broader Sawtooth National Forest.
