Annapurna South

Annapurna South (7,219 m) is a distinct summit within the Annapurna massif in the Nepali Himalayas, clearly visible from Pokhara on a fine day. First climbed by a Japanese expedition in 1964, it stands as a self-contained mountain rather than a subsidiary top. The Annapurna Base Camp Trek brings trekkers within close range of its southern ice face, passing rhododendron forests, Modi Khola gorges, and Gurung villages before reaching the base camp at roughly 4,130 metres. From there the sheer south wall dominates the amphitheatre and offers one of the most striking mountain panoramas in the entire Annapurna region.
