Annapurna III

Annapurna III rises to 7,555 metres, making it the 42nd highest mountain on Earth and a striking peak within the Annapurna massif of the Nepali Himalayas, clearly visible from Pokhara on clear days. Its first ascent came only in 1961 via a British expedition — the sheer southern face and persistent avalanche risk had repelled earlier attempts. It remains one of the less-frequently climbed seven-thousanders, lending it a quiet mystique among serious alpinists. In Nepali Hindu and Buddhist tradition the Annapurna peaks are considered sacred abodes of deities, and the name itself translates roughly as 'Goddess of the Harvests.' For most visitors the mountain is best experienced from trekking routes such as the Annapurna Circuit or the Poon Hill viewpoint at around 3,200 metres, where sunrise over the full massif is a defining Himalayan moment.
