Ballinafad Castle

Ballinafad Castle is the ruin of a medieval low-lying tower house in the village of Ballinafad, County Sligo, and is listed as a National Monument of Ireland. Perched above the quiet waters of Lough Arrow just east of the N4 national road, the castle sits deep in the Connacht countryside. Historical documentation is sparse, but the surviving masonry is consistent with an Anglo-Irish tower house of the late medieval period. The site is unmanaged and freely accessible, offering an unmediated encounter with overgrown stonework and an unobstructed view across the lake.
