Aghalard Castle is the ruin of a medieval tower house in County Mayo, Ireland, situated south of Castlebar. Tower houses of this type were built between the 14th and 17th centuries as fortified residences of Gaelic and Anglo-Irish lords, and remain scattered across the western Irish countryside. The Irish state protects the structure as a National Monument. On the ground, visitors find a quiet ruin set against the green Mayo landscape, with no documented visitor infrastructure or interior access. Its remote and largely undeveloped setting makes it primarily a draw for castle enthusiasts and photographers seeking unfrequented subjects.
