Basilica della Santissima Annunziata del Vastato

Built from 1520 onward in the heart of Genoa's historic centre, this basilica ranks among the most lavishly decorated Baroque churches in Liguria. Its interior was funded and embellished across several generations by Genoese noble families, chiefly the Lomellini, earning it the local nickname 'la ricca' — the rich one. The gilded coffered ceiling and sweeping early-17th-century frescoes bear witness to the maritime republic's wealth at its peak. Classified as an Italian national monument, it sits a short walk from the Palazzo Reale, making it a rewarding detour through the labyrinthine caruggi alleys of Genoa's old town.
