Cattedrale di San Pietro

The Cattedrale di San Pietro is the episcopal seat of the Archdiocese of Bologna, occupying a prominent position on Via Indipendenza, the city's main ceremonial boulevard. A place of Christian worship has stood on this site since around the year 1000, though the current structure reflects extensive baroque remodelling carried out through the 16th and 17th centuries. Its campanile is one of the defining vertical landmarks of the Bologna skyline. Designated an Italian national monument, the cathedral condenses over a millennium of ecclesiastical and civic history. Inside, a baroque nave with stucco ornamentation and a series of side chapels creates an atmosphere of layered devotion, sustained today by an active diocesan liturgical calendar.
