Basilica of Saint Mary of the Chorus

The Basilica of Saint Mary of the Chorus stands at the heart of the old town of Donostia-San Sebastián, holding the title of Basilica minor and serving as one of the most prominent religious buildings in the Basque province of Gipuzkoa. The current structure was erected from 1743 onward as a baroque replacement for a medieval Gothic church that had anchored the coastal city's religious life for centuries. Its ornate baroque facade integrates seamlessly into the narrow street grid of the old town, which today forms part of a UNESCO World Heritage site along the routes of the Camino de Santiago. Inside, sweeping arches and richly decorated altars typify the Iberian baroque style. It remains an active parish church of the Diocese of San Sebastián, open to visitors daily.
