Basilica of the Body of Christ

The Basilica del Corpus Domini is a Roman Catholic pilgrimage church in central Turin, built from 1607 to commemorate a eucharistic miracle said to have occurred on this very site in 1453: a stolen ciborium fell from a thief's horse, and the consecrated hosts reportedly rose into the air of their own accord. Holding the rank of basilica minor and recognized as an Italian national monument, the church was lavishly redecorated in the 18th century in full Baroque style — gilded altars, intricate stucco, and paintings depicting the miraculous event fill the interior. It remains an active pilgrimage destination within the Archdiocese of Turin today.
