Our Lady of the Assumption Co-Cathedral

The Basilica of the Assumption in Baracoa is a Roman Catholic co-cathedral of the Diocese of Guantánamo-Baracoa in eastern Cuba, holding the honorary papal title of Basilica minor. Baracoa, founded by the Spanish in 1511, is considered one of the oldest European settlements in the Caribbean, and the church reflects the city's deep colonial ecclesiastical roots. Dedicated to the Assumption of Mary, it serves as the principal religious landmark of a city long cut off from the rest of Cuba by the surrounding mountains — only connected by road in the 1960s.
