Basilica of Our Lady of the Cape

The Basilica of Our Lady of the Cape is a Roman Catholic national shrine in Trois-Rivières, Quebec, dedicated to the Virgin Mary and holding the rank of Basilica minor since 1964. The current round stone structure was built to replace an older 17th-century stone chapel that still stands nearby — one of the oldest surviving churches in Canada. The site draws hundreds of thousands of pilgrims annually from across Canada and the United States, making it one of the most significant Marian pilgrimage destinations in North America. Inside, modern stained-glass windows interpret Marian symbolism through mid-century forms, filling the circular nave with colored light.
