Basilique Notre-Dame

The Basilique Notre-Dame in central Alençon, Normandy, is a Roman Catholic parish church of the Diocese of Séez holding the honorary title of minor basilica, dedicated to the Assumption of Mary. Its building history spans from the 14th to the 19th century, with the Gothic core dating to 1356 surviving largely intact. The church holds particular significance as the baptismal church of Thérèse of Lisieux, one of Catholicism's most widely venerated saints, lending it a quiet but genuine pilgrimage character. Classified as a Monument historique, the interior rewards visitors with slender Gothic nave arcades and Marian chapels that reflect centuries of continuous devotion.
