Beit She'an Railway Station

Beit She'an Railway Station holds the record as the lowest railway station in the world, situated deep in the Jordan Rift Valley well below sea level since its reopening in 2016. The site has rail history dating to 1904, when a narrow-gauge Ottoman-era line along the Jezreel Valley first served the town, though the station lay dormant from 1948 for nearly seven decades. Israel Railways rebuilt the line to standard gauge on roughly the same route, siting the new station slightly northwest of the original. Currently the terminus of the New Jezreel Valley Railway, the station anchors long-discussed plans for a cross-border extension toward Irbid in Jordan.
