Bischofsturm

Also known as: Bischofsburg, Bishop's Castle, Bishop's Tower

Hamburg

The oldest surviving piece of stone architecture in Hamburg old town - a ring-shaped tower foundation from the 12th century, 19 metres across. Excavated below street level between 1962 and 1965. Long thought to be the seat of the Hamburg bishops; now recognised as a Hamburg noble family residential tower.
