Bloor Street

Bloor Street is one of Toronto's principal east-west thoroughfares, stretching roughly 25 kilometres from the western suburb of Mississauga to the Prince Edward Viaduct. It takes its name from Joseph Bloor (1789–1862), a British-born land speculator who founded the Yorkville settlement in the 1830s. Through the Yorkville neighbourhood the street functions as Toronto's premier luxury shopping corridor — often called the 'Mink Mile' — lined with international designer boutiques and upscale galleries. Beyond that central stretch, its character shifts considerably, reflecting the diversity of the many neighborhoods it passes through.
