Blue Plaque: William Slim

A modest blue heritage plaque in Birmingham commemorating Field Marshal William Slim (1891–1970), one of Britain's most capable military commanders of the Second World War. Slim grew up in Birmingham before rising to command the Fourteenth Army in the Burma campaign, turning a catastrophic 1942 retreat into a decisive victory over Japanese forces by 1945 — a campaign Churchill called 'the forgotten war'. He later served as the 13th Governor-General of Australia and was created 1st Viscount Slim. The plaque itself is a small street-level marker, of interest primarily to those tracing Birmingham's military heritage.
