Bridgnorth Castle

Bridgnorth Castle is a Norman ruin perched on a sandstone cliff above the River Severn in Shropshire, built in the early 12th century under Robert de Bellême. After holding out as a Royalist stronghold during the English Civil War, it fell to Parliamentary forces in 1646 and was subsequently slighted — an act of demolition that left the square keep leaning at roughly 15 degrees, a tilt noticeably greater than that of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Today the Grade II listed site serves as a quiet hilltop park with sweeping views across the Severn valley, the tottering tower itself the most arresting feature of Bridgnorth's High Town skyline.
