Boldogasszony bazilika

The Boldogasszony Basilica — Hungarian for 'Our Lady' — is the Romanesque ruin field of what was once the royal basilica at the heart of Székesfehérvár, Hungary's historic coronation city. In the medieval period it ranked among the most important churches in the kingdom: Hungarian kings, including the founding monarch Stephen I, were both crowned and buried within its walls. Ottoman conquest and subsequent centuries of neglect reduced the structure to its exposed foundations and scattered stonework. The excavated ruins are accessible as an open-air archaeological site, and their footprint alone conveys the basilica's former scale and dynastic importance.
