Borough

Borough is a Northern Line station in the London Borough of Southwark, positioned at the junction of Borough High Street and Marshalsea Road in Travelcard Zone 1. It sits on one of the oldest deep-level tunnel sections in the world — the line opened in 1890 as part of the City & South London Railway, the first electric underground railway ever built. The Victorian origins are immediately perceptible on the platform: the tube-gauge tunnels are noticeably narrower than those of later Underground lines, a consequence of the original cable-haulage specifications that predated electric traction. Around 4.9 million passengers used the station in 2013. It is wheelchair accessible and offers Wi-Fi.
