Baixa-Chiado

Baixa-Chiado is Lisbon Metro's busiest interchange, linking the Linha Azul and Linha Verde directly beneath the Largo do Chiado in the city center. Its opening date — 25 April 1998 — was deliberately chosen to coincide with the anniversary of Portugal's 1974 Carnation Revolution, the bloodless coup that ended decades of authoritarian rule. Banks of escalators and lifts deposit passengers straight into two of Lisbon's most frequented neighborhoods: the grid-planned Baixa commercial district and the bookshop- and café-lined Chiado quarter.
