Botanischer Garten der Universität Rostock

The Botanical Garden of the University of Rostock occupies 7.8 hectares in the city's Hansaviertel district along Hamburger Strasse and is one of the oldest scientific green spaces in Mecklenburg. A permanent garden was first established here in 1885 by botanist Karl Ritter von Goebel after several earlier founding attempts had failed. The current outdoor grounds were laid out between 1935 and 1939 under Arno Lehmann and Erich Rulsch, and the site is today listed as a protected cultural monument. Admission is free; the garden opens as early as 7 a.m. on weekdays from March to October, making it a quiet green retreat close to the city center.
