Botanical Garden

The Botanical Garden of the University of Wrocław sits on Cathedral Island, encircled by arms of the Oder River, and ranks among the oldest scientific gardens in Poland. Founded in 1811 during the Prussian era as a teaching and research facility, it preserves a remarkable stock of historic trees — some specimens well over 150 years old — alongside 19th-century glasshouses that remain in use. The garden is listed as an immovable monument under Polish heritage law and is operated by the University of Wrocław. Open from April through October, it offers a quieter, more contemplative experience than the city's larger parks, with labeled plant collections that reward slow, unhurried walks.
