Mozarthaus Vienna
Vienna
The Brahms House at Maximilianstraße 85 in Lichtental, a district of Baden-Baden, served as the summer retreat of Johannes Brahms from 1865 to 1876. In these modest rooms of a Gründerzeit villa, far from the bustle of Baden-Baden's spa promenade, Brahms composed some of his most important works, including the German Requiem and several string quartets — he valued Lichtental's quiet lanes precisely because they kept him away from the resort's social obligations. Today the house operates as a small memorial museum displaying original furniture, personal effects, and manuscript pages. Opening hours are limited — Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 15:00 to 17:00, and Sunday from 10:00 to 13:00 — giving visits an intimate, almost private quality.
