Bridge of Don

The Bridge of Don is a granite arch bridge completed in 1827, carrying the A956 road across the River Don and linking central Aberdeen to its northern suburb of the same name. It was added to the Scottish Listed Buildings register at Category B in 1967, recognising its architectural and historic interest. Built in the robust granite masonry characteristic of early 19th-century northeast Scotland, the bridge reflects the era's confidence in local stone as a primary engineering material. It remains a working road crossing with no dedicated visitor facilities, but its listed status marks it as a modest but authentic remnant of Georgian-era infrastructure.
