Asloun Castle

Asloun Castle is the surviving tower remnant of a 16th-century Z-plan tower house in rural Aberdeenshire, roughly three miles southwest of the village of Alford. The Z-plan layout — a distinctly Scottish Renaissance form in which round flanking towers are set diagonally at opposite corners of a main block — survives only as a single ruined stump today. Designated a Scheduled Ancient Monument, it sits quietly beside the Strow Burn with no visitor infrastructure, making it a find for those willing to seek it out across open farmland.
