Centraal Museum

Also known as: Centraal Museum (locaties: Centraal Museum, Nijntje Museum, Rietveld Schröder Huis), Central Museum

Founded in 1838, the Centraal Museum in Utrecht is the oldest city museum in the Netherlands. It combines collections that elsewhere would be split across several institutions: Old Masters with a strong focus on the Utrecht Caravaggisti Honthorst, Terbrugghen and Baburen, modern design, four centuries of fashion, and the world's largest collection of work by Utrecht architect Gerrit Rietveld. The museum also operates the 1924 Rietveld Schroder House, a UNESCO World Heritage site nearby that requires a separate visit. The main complex occupies a former 16th-century Agnieten convent whose old cloisters are integrated into the visit. Rotating fashion exhibitions are a draw in themselves.
