Anne Frank House

The Anne Frank House at Prinsengracht 263 preserves the hidden annex where Anne Frank and seven others hid from Nazi occupiers between 1942 and 1944. Access was concealed behind a revolving bookcase — a detail Otto Frank, the group's sole survivor, deliberately kept when founding the museum after the war. On 4 August 1944 the group was betrayed and deported; Anne died at Bergen-Belsen in February 1945, weeks before liberation. Otto chose not to restore the furniture, leaving the rooms empty so that the confined space speaks for itself through original diary pages, photographs, and personal objects. The diary has since been translated into more than 70 languages. Tickets must be booked well in advance; same-day entry is rarely available.
