Tyrol Panorama Museum

Tirol Panorama is a museum opened in 2011 on the Bergisel hill in Innsbruck, the famous site of the ski jump. Its centrepiece is the Innsbruck Giant Cyclorama, a 1000-square-metre panoramic painting by Michael Zeno Diemer from 1896 depicting the Third Battle of Bergisel in the 1809 Tyrolean Rebellion led by Andreas Hofer - Tyrol's founding myth against Napoleonic occupation. The cyclorama was originally housed in a rotunda on Rennweg and drew pilgrim crowds well into the 1960s. Today it is linked by an underground passage to the adjacent Kaiserjaeger Museum, which documents the Tyrolean rifle companies. Together they form one of the five houses of the Tyrolean State Museums.
