Acherkogel

The Acherkogel is a 3,007-metre summit in the Stubai Alps, recognized as the northernmost three-thousander in Tyrol — and, when counting only peaks with a topographic prominence above 100 metres, arguably the northernmost in Europe. Its foundation of granite-gneiss and imposing rock flanks to the northwest and southwest give it a commanding presence above the Ötztal valley near the village of Oetz, with a vertical rise of roughly 2,200 metres from valley floor to summit. The standard ascent follows the northeast ridge and demands solid alpine experience. The reward is an expansive panorama taking in the Ötztal and Stubai Alps, with the valley floor far below providing a sense of scale rarely matched on northern Alpine summits.
