Memorial to Homosexuals persecuted under Nazism

A four-meter concrete stele on the edge of the Tiergarten facing the Holocaust Memorial, inaugurated on 27 May 2008. It commemorates homosexual men persecuted under Paragraph 175 and murdered in Nazi concentration camps. The work is by the Scandinavian artist duo Elmgreen and Dragset and deliberately echoes the form of the stelae across the road. A small window in the side plays a film that is replaced every few years - sometimes kissing men, sometimes women, sometimes mixed couples, depending on the current debate. Today the stele is an almost discreet station on the edge of busy Ebertstrasse. Tourists leaving the larger memorial often stumble across it, lean briefly to the window, and walk on.
