Friedrichstadt-Palast

The Friedrichstadt-Palast on Friedrichstrasse in Berlin-Mitte holds Europe's largest show stage, with over 2,000 square meters of performance space and seating for around 1,900 spectators. The current building opened in 1984 as a late prestige project of the GDR — its glittering neon facade and opulent interior were designed to project socialist grandeur, while the stage was equipped with cutting-edge theatrical technology. The site's history stretches back further: a predecessor building served as a market hall before Max Reinhardt turned it into a theatre, and it flourished as a legendary revue-variety venue during the Weimar Republic. Today the Palast is best known for its precision kickline and elaborate Grand Shows combining international dance companies, special effects, and hundreds of costumes — current productions regularly run for several years and sell out far in advance.
