Jesus Church

The Kaulsdorf Village Church - officially the Jesus Church since 1912 - is a medieval fieldstone building on the historic village green of present-day Berlin-Kaulsdorf in the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district. It goes back to the 15th century and is one of the few surviving suburban village centers on Berlin's eastern edge that survived the later overbuilding with prefab housing and detached homes relatively unscathed. The building shows the standard vocabulary of Brandenburg village churches: rectangular hall of hewn granite boulders, broad western tower with a saddle roof. Modifications followed in the 19th century, with the interior renewed several times. The church and its enclosure are heritage-protected and accessible during services or by arrangement.
