Żegota Monument in Warsaw

The Zegota Monument commemorates the Council to Aid Jews, a unique organisation within the Polish underground state that rescued thousands of Jewish people from the Holocaust during the German occupation. It stands in Muranow, the former Warsaw Ghetto, between the Monument to the Ghetto Heroes and the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews. Zegota was singular in occupied Europe: a state-backed rescue body that organised forged papers, hiding places and funds, with an estimated impact of around 4,000 people saved in Warsaw alone. Visitors today encounter a quieter site that consciously belongs to a triangle of memory - the three monuments together map out what was lost here and what was saved.
