Central Olympic Stadium
Athens
The Faliro Olympic Beach Volleyball Centre is a sand stadium on the Faliro coastal strip in Paleo Faliro, about seven kilometers south of central Athens. Built for the beach volleyball competitions of the 2004 Summer Olympics, it held some 10,000 spectators in stands around three artificially laid sand courts. After the Games it saw very little use, like many other Athens venues, and decayed over the following years. During the 2010s the site was occasionally reopened for concerts and events, though its condition remains mixed. Today the stadium is best known as a symbol of Athens' difficult post-Olympic legacy, of interest mainly to sports-history visitors, set within the wider Faliro Coastal Zone Olympic Complex.
