Fectio

Fectio, also called Castellum Vechten, was one of the earliest Roman forts in the present-day Netherlands, founded just before the turn of the era under Drusus. The camp commanded the bifurcation of the Vecht and the Rhine and for a time served as a naval base of the Classis Germanica. With the build-out of the Lower Germanic Limes it became part of the frontier, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2021. Today the ground monument lies beneath pasture near Bunnik south-east of Utrecht. Little is visible at surface level, but information panels and finds at nearby Museum Hoge Woerd make the site legible.
