Hang Nadim Airport

Also known as: BTH, Hang Nadim International Airport, WIDD

Hang Nadim Airport is the gateway to the Indonesian island of Batam, just an hour by ferry from Singapore. It mainly serves domestic routes to Jakarta, Surabaya and Medan, and is named after the legendary Javanese seafarer Hang Nadim. Opened in 1973 as a small regional field, it was sharply expanded from the 1990s as Batam grew into a free-trade zone for electronics manufacturing. Today it is the main air link for the Riau Islands and a hop-off point for the wider Indonesian archipelago. Travellers land on the edge of Batam and are minutes from the fast-boat terminals to Singapore or Johor.
