Dekelia Air Base, formerly Tatoi Airport, lies about 22 kilometres north of central Athens in the municipality of Acharnes. It was developed on the grounds of the Tatoi royal estate of the Greek royal family and served general aviation from 1916 until Athens-Eleftherios Venizelos opened in 2001. It is now a Hellenic Air Force base and not open to the public. The neighbouring Tatoi estate holds the tombs of the Greek kings; its palace has been under long-term restoration.
