District Museum Brigittenau
Vienna
Also known as: FHXB Museum, FHXB, Bezirksmuseum Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg
The FHXB Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg Museum is the district museum of the two merged inner-city boroughs and sits in a former magistrate's court on Adalbertstrasse. It explicitly sees itself as the living memory of Kreuzberg: migration stories of the Turkish, Kurdish and Arabic communities, the squatter scene of the 1980s, the May Day clashes on Lausitzer Platz and the years of the Wall borderland are fixed threads of the permanent show. A neighbourhood archive of photos, posters and audio interviews is open to researchers. Admission is free, and locals often use the building as a meeting place as much as a museum.
