Galata Tower Photo spot

The Galata Tower photo spot sits at the base of the medieval cylindrical tower in the Galata district, one of Istanbul's oldest neighborhoods. The tower was built in 1348 by Genoese merchants as the 'Christea Turris' and served variously as a prison, observatory, and fire watchtower under Ottoman rule — the 16th-century aviator Hezarfen Ahmed Celebi allegedly glided from its top across the Bosphorus. The surrounding plaza offers one of Istanbul's most iconic vantage points, with the tower rising against the Golden Horn and the Bosphorus beyond — rewarding for photographers at any hour, but particularly at dusk. Numerous cafés and restaurants cluster nearby; entry to the tower's observation deck carries a fee of around 30 euros.
