Giricano Höyüğü

Giricano is an archaeological settlement mound (höyük) on the northern bank of the Tigris River in the Bismil district of Diyarbakır Province, Turkey. The tell measures roughly 170 × 120 metres across and rises 25 metres above the surrounding plain, sitting on a pronounced river bend about three kilometres northwest of the better-documented site of Ziyaret Tepe. Mounds of this scale in the upper Tigris region typically date to the Bronze or Iron Age, representing millennia of continuous Mesopotamian settlement. Giricano has no formal visitor infrastructure, but its elevated position offers unobstructed views across the Tigris loop and the alluvial lowlands beyond.
