Great Mosque of Tirana

Also known as: Namazgah-Moschee, Namazgâh Mosque

The Great Mosque of Tirana, also called the Namazgja Mosque, is the largest mosque in the Balkans, accommodating up to 5,000 worshippers. It stands on the former Namazgja Square - a historic open-air Ottoman prayer ground that had long sat as an unused park between Parliament and the river Lana. Largely funded by the Turkish Diyanet religious authority, construction began in 2015 and finished in 2022. The architecture follows classical Ottoman dome-mosque lines, with four minarets and a 30-metre central dome. The complex is not only a place of worship but also the seat of the Albanian Muslim Community, with a library, conference rooms and underground parking. Opening day was a symbolic event for Tirana's Muslims after decades with no major mosque construction.
