Marina Bay

Singapore
  • Light Show

Marina Bay is Singapore's newest district, an entirely reclaimed-land downtown at the southern edge of the island. The bay itself was built up gradually from 1969 through land reclamation; in 2008 the Marina Barrage was completed, turning the bay into a freshwater reservoir while providing flood protection and drinking water. The skyline gathers icons: Moshe Safdie's three-towered Marina Bay Sands with its sky park and infinity pool, the durian-shaped Esplanade, the Helix Bridge, the lotus-flower ArtScience Museum, and the solar Supertrees of Gardens by the Bay. After dark the free Spectra light and water show sets jets and lasers to music. Walkable day and night along the full waterfront promenade loop.
