The Iglesia de Santa María del Monte Carmelo is a Baroque parish church in Salamanca dedicated to Our Lady of Mount Carmel, the patroness of the Carmelite order. Salamanca's status as one of Spain's foremost theological centres in the 16th and 17th centuries fostered the construction of numerous order churches in the city, each competing in Baroque ambition. The Carmelites trace their Marian devotion to medieval hermit communities on Mount Carmel in present-day Israel, a tradition reflected in the church's dedication. The building remains an active place of Catholic worship; note that wheelchair access is not available.
