Also known as: IZH, Imam-Ali-Moschee
Historic Islamic cultural center with the Blue Mosque on Hamburg's Outer Alster – a protected city landmark.
The Islamic Centre Hamburg (IZH) was the proprietor of the Imam Ali Mosque in Hamburg-Uhlenhorst, commonly known as the Blue Mosque, located directly on the Outer Alster lake. Founded in the late 1950s by Iranian emigrants, it was one of Germany's oldest Islamic institutions for decades. The mosque's distinctive blue-green dome and minarets make it a protected cultural monument. In 2024, the IZH was banned by the German state; the mosque building itself remains protected as a heritage site.
